BWF World Junior Ranking to commence January 2011
In February 2011 the inauguaral Oceania Junior team championships followed by the individual championships, will be played in Fiji. This event has been created following feedback from the players who attended the Oceania Junior Championships in Invercargill earlier this year, that they wanted both team and individuals championships the same as the senior event. This event will now be held every two years, alternately to the senior event. The first event is 21-27 2011 in Fiji with players able to earn points towards their junior world ranking. This event carries points values of a Grand Prix event.
Both the New Zealand and Australian Junior Internationals in 2011 have been sanctioned by Oceania and the BWF to be included in the World Junior ranking system. The Australian Junior International is being played in Ballarat 13-15 May with the NZ Junior International being played at North Harbour the following week.

Release from the BWF:
Further to the decision taken at BWF Council in November 2009 to implement a BWF World Junior Rankings and feedback received from Continental Confederations BWF are pleased to move this process to the next stage with the identification of tournaments that will count for the World Junior Rankings.
All Member Associations have the possibility of including in the World Junior Rankings the results of an International Junior Tournament. To do so the tournament must be sanctioned by BWF, the application being made through the Continental Confederation in the first instance. In general the principle is that tournaments shall be sanctioned no later than six months before they are due to begin in order to count towards the World Junior Rankings. In this initial start up period tournaments before April should apply by October 31st.
The testing period will start on 1st January 2011. BWF will create and publish a Junior Tournament Calendar.
It is recognized that the strength of junior players around the World is different and therefore different weightings of ranking points will be used accordingly based on the points levels used in the current senior World Rankings.
Only players under 19 will be included in the World Junior Ranking, players will be taken out of the World Junior Ranking once they are 19 on 1st January. In doubles players will be ranked as individuals and not pairs.
The World Junior Rankings will include points from the best five results (highest amount of points) from Junior tournaments and individual tournaments in the BWF World Ranking (though a maximum of 2 BWF World Ranking tournaments only will contribute to the BWF World Junior Ranking). The aim of including BWF World Ranking tournament points is to reflect the actual strength of Junior players some of which play BWF World Ranking tournaments.
