Friday April 25 - Saturday April 26, 2014.
Auckland, hosted by Lacrosse New Zealand
Well we promised you more information – here it is (and apologies for being slow in getting this out onto our website).
WE NEED MORE PLAYERS is the key message. ALA must finalise the teams by Thursday 13th March 2014, in order to get our 2XU playing and team uniforms ready in time. Hence we are re-opening player registrations until Thursday 13th March. You can register on-line. If you want to enquire or discuss any aspect of the tour then please email Mike Slattery (president@lacrosse.com.au).
ALA invites Player Applications for the following teams:
- ALA ANZAC Men’s Team 2014 - For the Online Player Application Click Here
- ALA ANZAC Women’s Team 2014 - For the Online Player Application Click Here
Thanks to all who have registered previously – no need to re-register.
Here are the details that you need to know:
COST
The self-funding required for this exciting event is $1,120 which covers cost-equalised air travel from your State to/from Auckland, accommodation (with bedding & towels), bus travel to/from airport and sightseeing, playing uniforms, team uniforms (jacket & track pants, incidentals).
ITINERARY
We leave Australia on Thursday 24th April 2014, arrive in Auckland early that afternoon and have our one training session and team meeting. We march in the ANZAC Day parade on Friday morning, then play both men’s and women’s games against the New Zealand National sides that afternoon. We will have a meal with NZ players that night. Saturday will be matches against the NZ women’s U19 Team, their senior men’s team and their U17 women’s team.
Sunday 27 April will be a casual day with a bus tour around Auckland before departing home for Australia.
A total of 4 days (including one weekend and a Public Holiday) required.
REGISTRATION
We particularly need female players. There are now no constraints to registration – any lacrosse players from anywhere are welcome. How about a group from a team getting together and forming a component of this women’s team – or a full team for that matter?
We also want more men’s players. We have a very successful coach in Darren Gibson (past Australian Captain and Williamstown premiership coach) guiding this team.
We will be well hosted by the NZALU with radio and TV coverage of the games (we are in a joint event with top grade rugby). Inside Lacrosse wants to write a feature article around these Commemorative games.
The joint NZALU/ALA Press Release can be found here.
So please register quickly and before Thursday 13th March 2014. The ALA has committed to two Australian teams, men and women, competing in these ANZAC Commemorative Lacrosse Games.
