The Metro boys pulled double duty at the National Youth Championships yesterday, as the Victorian teams continued their strong performances.
After a tough 1-0 loss to South Australia in their first match of the day, the 13 Boys Metro bounced back to beat Northern NSW Metro 2-1 with Pierce Waring and Luke Ward scoring either side of the break.
The 14 Boys Metro were on the winning side of a 5-3 score line against Northern NSW Metro. The scores were locked at 3-3 after goals from Mehdi Sarwari and Anthony Duzel with Victoria’s third coming courtesy of an own goal. Josh Markovski scored two brilliant goals in the 41st and 46th minutes to give his side the win and cap off a brilliant team performance. Their following match against South Australia was in complete contrast to their earlier match, but the talent on display was of the same high standard, 0-0 the final result.
The 13 Boys Country put in a solid defensive effort to keep Tasmania goalless, the 0-0 result testament to the solid defences of both sides.
Despite playing excellent for periods of the match, the 14 Boys Country went down to Tasmania 4-1.
These Championships are all about player development and understanding the 4-3-3 as prescribed by the FFA National Curriculum.
