Sam and Eric's Great Murray Adventure - Australia

10th Great Murray River Basketball Jamboree a success!

200 under-12 players from Australia and New Zealand gathered in Albury, Australia to have four days of fun-fuelled action. Basketball Waitakere City was represented by Samuel Waardenburg. 18 boys and 19 girls travelled from New Zealand on Nov 26th, accompanied by a group of 3 coaches, 2 camp managers, and 12 parent supporters, including Sam’s Dad.

At the jamboree there were 10 boys and 10 girls teams, mainly comprising of Australian players, with a few Kiwis in each team. The emphasis was on non-competitive play, with players developing social skills, as well as on-court skills. It is about fun rather than winning.

Every team played six games, with players all getting equal time on court. Other activities at the jamboree included swimming, group BBQ, player’s disco, and even a skit night.

Sam thoroughly enjoyed the experience and highly recommends the jamboree for other players. So, if you are 10 years old now and would like a chance to attend the 11th jamboree in 2011, start your fundraising now.
