NEW RECRUITS HEAD LIST OF LTU MVP NOMINATIONS

First year LTU players Stephanie Cortese and Arben Tairi were announced as nominees for league Most Valuable Players and All Star 5 positions today. At the end of every match, coaches were asked to allocate 10 votes, with a maximum of 5 votes for 1 player, to the Big V. At the end of the season, the votes were added up resulting in the list of nominees.

Cortese was a standout throughout a disappointing season for the LTU women this season. Her rugged inside play and great shooting touch made the LTU Eagle's a competitive unit and a serious threat when they had a full squad available. Steph led the league in rebounding (14.1) and free throw percentage (86%) and also averaged 14.3 points per game. These fantastic statistics and her influence on games make her an excellent chance to take out the following awards that she has been nominated for: Most Valuable Player
Rising Star (U/21)
All Star 5 (Centre)

Tairi was just as impressive in his first season in LTU colours. Averaging 20.8 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, Benny was forced to shoulder much of the scoring burden after several teammates were injured during the season. His tenacious play, fancy footwork and long range helped guide the Eagles to their 2nd successive playoffs. Arben has been nominated for Most Valuable Player and All Star 5 (Forward).

Not to be outdone, 5 more Trobers have also had great seasons in the red and black and are chances to gain an All Star 5 position.

Paul DiMarzio (Guard) continued his great Big V form. Despite a logjam of guards, Di Marzio continued his impressive output and helped shoulder the load when required.

Last years leading rebounder, Dave Cannan (Centre) had a quieter year this year. However that doesn't mean that he was any less effective. Surrounded by talented rebounders this season, Cannanball continued to dominate the middle and intimidate all comers.

Paul Dameski (Centre) quietly went through the season accumulating boards and points and making opposition teams pay for leaving him alone.

Another new recruit, Krystal Calvert (Guard), brought leadership to a team that was looking for guidance. Always going for the hard ball her contributions to the team have not gone unnoticed.

Erin McCutcheon (Forward) was one of the top rebounders in the league before leaving midseason.

Total statistics for all men's and women's nominees can be found here
The awards will be announced at the Big V Presentation Night on October 8th.
