WOMEN'S RESULTS

SECONDARY POOL ROUND
GAME 3 - 12.45pm Wednesday 28/9/05
LTU 49 v RMIT 39

With a top 2 pool position the only way to make the semis, the match up between the local rivals, LTU and RMIT, was always going to be a belter. RMIT had the depth, size and overall talent and the LTU girls knew they were going to have to dig deep to win the game. The match was physical and defence was dogged as both teams played tug of war for the first half.

During the 2nd quarter, RMIT's relentless D choked La Trobe and the girls looked for someone to step up. Enter Amber Farrington. Coming off her first year playing for LTU's Big V team, Farrington was huge in the 2nd quarter, scoring 9 straight of the teams 10 points for the period.

Although LTU went into the 3rd quarter 2 points in arrears, Farrington had provided the spark that the girls needed. Jen Cameron, although undersized, evened up the rebound count with the RMIT bigs. Tess Feery penetrated and Brooke McKay was all over the offensive and defensive ends. Jenna Watson came in to spell the guards and threw her body around with reckless abandon and Jodie Datson woke from her first half slumber and scored 17 second half points to finish with 20 for the game.

At the end of the game, the girls were battered and bruised but victorious. It was true testement to what guts, determination and teamwork can achieve!

LTU SCORERS
Datson - 20
Farrington - 13
McKay - 7
Feery - 7

SECONDARY POOL ROUND
GAME 4 - 4.30pm Wednesday 28/9/05
LTU 45 v Flinders Uni 36

A win against Flinders Uni would ensure a semi final berth and there was no way that the LTU girls were going to let this one slip away. Once again the big 3 (Datson, Feery, McKay) were far too good for the opposition. Although battered from the earlier game against RMIT, LTU did what had to be done and progressed to the semi final.

LTU SCORERS
Datson - 16
Feery - 11
McKay - 9

MENS RESULTS

REPECHAGE
GAME 5 - 2.00pm Wednesday 28/9/05
LTU 40 v Macquarie 53

It was bound to happen, and unfortunately it happened in a knockout game. LTU ran out of legs and the lack of depth on the bench hurt them badly. Paul McMaster put the boys on his massive shoulders and put on a basketball clinic as the LTU boys put the wind up the Macquarie team. When lone big man, Dan Kraljevic fouled out in the last quarter, LTU lost their inside dominance and Macquarie finshed the last quarter 17 - 8 and ran out 13 point winners.

The highest the men can now finish is 9th. If they beat UTS tomorrow they play off for 9th and 10th at 9am on Friday morning. If they lose to UTS they play of for 11th and 12th at 2pm tomorrow afternoon. Go figure!

LTU SCORERS
McMaster 20
Watts 12
Kraljevic 8

Tomorrows game
10.15am v UTS
If they lose - 2.00pm
