AUG DAY 5 RESULTS - LTU TAKE BRONZE

WOMEN'S RESULTS
BRONZE MEDAL GAME
GAME 6 - 10.15 am Friday 29/9/05
LTU 42 V DEAKIN 36

The battle for bronze took place between LTU and Deakin Uni. LTU won bronze in the Southern Uni Games and Deakin won the Gold at the same tournament. Deakin had the star studded lineup and LTU, although talented, were short on numbers and physically drained after a gruelling week.

Just like every other game they encountered, the girls dug that little bit deeper and took it up to the more favoured opponent. Brooke McKay established herself inside early and Jodie Datson and Tess Feery pressured the Deakin backcourt into mistakes that resulted in LTU baskets.

Both teams appeared flat after the big week but it was La Trobe that was able to fight through the pain and build a slender lead at the end of each of the 3 quarters. At 3 quarter time LTU held a 3 point lead and it appeared that Deakin was ready to make a charge at La Trobe.

However, LTU were able to counter Deakin's attack as they had all opponents during the week. Datson and Feery continued to score and set up their team mates. McKay, who looked more like a dalmation with all her bruising, continued to battle hard inside. Amber, Jen and Jenna kept up their contributions when required and stepped up at just the right times. And so it was, through the great efforts of those 6 girls, that La Trobe was able to take the bronze medal from the more fancied opponent.

After the game, the girls collapsed in an exhausted yet satisfied heap. No more games tomorrow and a well deserved rest on its way. Well done girls!
