FOUR LTU PLAYERS MAKE GREEN AND GOLD
The efforts of Jodie Datson, Tess Feery and Brooke McKay were identified as key factors to La Trobe Uni's Bronze medal placing at the AUG's.
Datson was the number 1 scoring option for the team and never disappointed. She took defensive assignments on larger opponents and was never beaten. Jodie's great shooting throughout the tournament was a key factor behind LTU's success.
Feery looked after the ball and set up much of the offence. Her great match play allowed Datson to go one on one with her opponents. If Tess was left alone she punished her opponents with deadly outside shooting and slashing drives to the basket.
McKay was forced to play much of the tournament out of position. With an inexperienced front court alongside her, Brooke led by example and the younger bigs in Amber Farrington and Jen Cameron followed her lead. Bruised and battered at the end of the tournament, Brooke was very deserving of her selection.
Paul McMaster was rewarded for an outstanding tournament with his selection to the Green and Gold team. His play in the early rounds helped LTU progress until they were knocked out by eventual gold medalists, Macquarie University. Against Macquarie, the MacDaddy was huge and he had 20 of the teams 40 points. Macquarie had no way of containing McMaster and he scored at will. With a little more depth in the team, the teams placing would have been much higher.
