TROBERS TAKE ALBURY

LTU have returned from the Albury tournament happy campers after sweeping all before them for victory in men's A grade and womens A grade and C Grade.

LTU entered 2 teams in men's A Grade. Team 2 was made up of the Prime Time team from the Thursday night Championship competition. However the team was ravaged by the last minute withdrawal of Peter Leimonitis and injuries to Ranga and Forbesy. Regardless, the boys played hard and were never beaten by more thean 10 points.

Team 1 initially was made up of the team that won last years team until a few last minute withdrawals. Cannanball was replaced by Dan Cullinan and Bracky was replaced by Jeremy Datson. Ben Cukier bumped Forbesy to the 2nd team. The nucleus of Dobbo, Chippa, Paully D, Adam Moore and Olly remained intact and that was all that was needed as no team got close to them. In what has become a tournament rivalry, LTU once again knocked of Blackburn in their closest match of the weekend. The Grand Final was played against some Penrith boys who thought they had a chance. After the score was blown out to a 20 plus lead, LTU started shooting long range bank shots and left handed j's on their way to an easy victory.

3 women's teams were entered in the tournament. 2 in A grade and 1 in C Grade although this team should have been in A Reserve except for an oversight by tournament organisers who refused to fix the mistake.

The A Grade teams had a very LTU, Eltham, Sandringham mix to them and only the Waverely Big V team had any chance against them. That was only because they had Green and Gold Trobers Tess and Brooke playing for them!! As it turned out, both LTU teams met in the Grand Final that was played in a very relaxed manner. The winner - LTU!

The girls who were forced to play in C Grade decided to let the tournament organisers know what they thought of the decision by winning their games by an average of 40 points per game. It got to the point where opposition teams were letting the tourney organisers know what they thought. Eventually, the girls were paid the winners prize money in exchange for not playing in the finals. Nice one girls.

On the social side of things, it was a very typical Trober tournament. There were the typical inter team LTU romances, numerous jager bombs, exposure of various body parts on dance floors and mobile phones and the standard red eyes on the court next day. In particular, Dobbo continued a fine tournament career for La Trobe and is making a huge play for honourary Trober of the year (Never attended LTU but is always a social fixture).

Once again, Chippa led by example and the new recruits followed suit. Jez Datson slotted right in to Trober life as did Benny Cukier. Paully DiMarzio is still struggling to shake the rookie label even though his virgin year was back in 2001. Somehow he kept having the shots allocated to him.

Special mention to Marnie Hay who's little nightclub scavenger hunt added an amusing twist to Saturday night as well as a new screensaver to Dobbo's phone.

Bring on the Warrnambool Tournament in January!!!
