ROUND 3 WRAP

Neville Chivhanganye

BIG V DIVISION 2 MEN

LTU 80 d MELBOURNE UNI 57 - SATURDAY APRIL 14, 2007 @ MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY

The Eagles continued their early good form of 2007, clinically dismantling a shabby Melbourne Uni side in a one sided match. Melbourne Uni were outmatched in size and skill and struggled for much of the game. Once again, LTU's bigs in Chivhanganye and Oliver dominated inside whilst Pete Leimonitis kept their guards honest with 22 points from the outside.

STAT LINE OF THE GAME

RANDOM OBSERVATIONS

  • The Big Ticket is proving to be a dominant force on the defensive end but his great defence is putting him in the coaches bad books. As is becoming common, Nev blocked a Melbourne Uni players shot and sent it into the stands however, such was the force of the block that he nailed Sarge in the head! Careful Nev.
  • Bryn Phillpot-Evans is slowly becoming the defensive stopper within the team. This week he was asked to do the job on MU's Musti Erdas and kept him to 2 points in the second half. Great work Brian

THE WEEK AHEAD

LTU V WARRAGUL @ DAREBIN SAT 21/4 8PM

In what is turning into an intense rivalry, LTU's men will take on last years D2 champions and title favourite, Warragul Warriors (2-1). Recent games have been tough, physical encounters that have gone down to the wire. As usual, Warragul boast supermouth Mike Santo, perennial scorer and playmaker. Not a 1 man team, the Warriors bring plenty of size and dogged defence.

Not to be outdone, the Eagles (4-0) are on a roll that they are committed to continue. Playing without 2006 MVP and leading scorer, Tim Sturrock, the Eagles are unbeaten coming in to Round 4. On the back of solid teamwork, some handy offseason acquisitions (Andrew Oliver (Monash Uni), Davin Sgargetta (Shepparton), Neill McCormack (season off)) and the emergence of "Big Ticket" Neville Chivhanganye as a force to be reckoned with, LTU are doing everything right early on.

BIG V DIVISION 1 WOMEN

CRAGIEBURN 64 d LTU 81 - SATURDAY APRIL 14, 2007 @ CRAGIEBURN

It's been a tale of injury and unavailability for the Eagles in their start to 2007. Early foul trouble to both Krystal Calvert and Mel Carter forced a change in gameplan and LTU played a very conservative game and showed great composure to go into halftime 1 point in arrears. Unfortunately, Cragieburn burst out in the second half and established a lead that LTU struggled to rein back. The girls showed grit and determination to stay competitive and were able to take away many positives from the game. Missing starters Michelle Lee and Erin McCutcheon, LTU threw rookies Sherry Glennie and Erin Jarvis into the deep end where they showed they will both soon be forces to be reckoned with in the Big V.

STAT LINE OF THE GAME

SHERRY GLENNIE 9 points 15 boards 4 blocks

LTU v SHEPPARTON @ DAREBIN SATURDAY 21/4 6PM

LTU women (0-3) face a rebuilding Shepparton (1-2). LTU have had a tough start to the year through a combination of injury and player unavailability but have been more than competitive in recent games. Tonight they will look to take the next step into the winners list. Shepparton were in the same position as LTU last week and managed to get the W against Diamond Valley.
