WHELAN NAMED COACH OF THE MONTH FOR JULY
Andrew Whelan has led the La Trobe University Eagles to another month of straight wins, awarding him back to back Coach of the Month honours for June & July.
The month of July saw the Eagles with another four wins, with an average winning margin of 19 points per game, well ahead of any other team in the Division Two competition.
The Eagles had wins over Warragul, Melbourne University, Shepparton and top of the ladder Coburg which broke the Giants winning streak and made for an exciting finals series in August.
Whelan said not much has changed since last month's performance, just that the boys will be going into the finals in great form.
"Our last month has been a great team effort and we have had contributors across the team. It was very satisfying to get a couple of good wins without last season's MVP Tim Sturrock. The strong final month of the season gives us a strong belief going into the playoffs and has proved to us that we are contenders on our best form," he said.
