 Auckland Basketball Services Limited (ABSL) has recently been established by Basketball Auckland and Counties Manukau Basketball to efficiently and effectively deliver the key services required to enable basketball in the Auckland region to operate, develop and grow sustainably.

 

The General Manager role is key to the leadership & change programme required to deliver a sustainable legacy for basketball in the Auckland region. You will be responsible for managing multiple stakeholders, delivering a high quality & effective service and harmonising the collective strengths of both organisations to create one team & vision with the support of a committed Board.

 

An understanding of the diversity of the area, the founding organisations and the value of the volunteer network will be essential to this position. The ability to grow, align and mobilise the basketball community is also considered essential and will be highly valued.

 

Reporting to the Board of ABSL the ideal applicant will have a successful track record in:

 

• Leadership and Administration – a proven leader and administrator with experience in working with multiple stakeholders. Strong personal integrity and a commitment to professionalism and accountability, with outstanding people skills including the ability to attract talent, build teams, coach and mentor staff, solve conflict, delegate and manage organisational change.

 

• Experience in managing basketball or other sports - demonstrable success in managing or developing the growth of sport or sport programmes is preferred. This should include a track record of making a difference, demonstrating the benefits and getting early traction for critical actions.

 

• Relationship management skills – the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and build effective relationships with coaches, funding organisations, sponsors, BBNZ, officials, recreation organisations, schools, councils, all affiliated members, and other key organizations in the basketball community is essential.

 

• Strong communication and networking skills - highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to bring people together and a commitment to open and honest communication. The position requires a person who has excellent report writing skills. The ability to motivate and support others through a period of change is also important.

 

 

• Commercial acumen - experience in successfully developing and monitoring sustainable budgets, programmes and activities. An ability to secure revenue streams to develop financially sustainable programmes and activities. Knowledge of and an ability to secure grant funding and develop long term partnerships with funding agencies.

 

 

• Managing customer and community stakeholder relationships - the applicant will need to be able to provide leadership in the basketball and wider community. An ability to understand the needs and expectations of all stakeholders with the ability to demonstrate a commitment to making a difference through change is needed.

 

• Adaptive and able to lead change - the ability to engage all stakeholders and lead them through a process of change is critical as is the ability to work collaboratively to achieve outcomes for the development of the game.
