STARS BACK ON TRACK

By Scott Spicer

The Youthtown Auckland Stars bounced back from a demoralising loss to cross-town rivals Appliance Shed Harbour Heat to record a 111-102 victory over the Cartridge World Otago Nuggets in Dunedin last weekend.

American import Tashaan Forehan-Kelly and former MVP Lindsay Tait led the charge for the Stars, combining for 71 points to help their team regain the top spot in the Dominion Finance NBL.

Forehan-Kelly set a new franchise record with 37 points on 12/19 shooting, including 7/10 from behind the arc, breaking the previous mark of 36 points set but Tait earlier this season.

Tait finished with 34 points on 11/18 from the field, including 10/11 at the free-throw line, and also added 5 assists to hand the Nuggets their sixth consecutive loss.

Tait and Forehan-Kelly currently lead the Stars in scoring with 24.1 and 20.3 points per game respectively.

This week the Stars look to extend their lead atop the NBL table with a visit to Palmerston North on Thursday to take on the Inspire Net Manawatu Jets.

The Jets are just 2-4 this season, having lost to the Stars in Round 5 of the competition, but are coming off an impressive 96-93 overtime victory against the TET Taranaki Mountain Airs in their last outing.
