Rules

AFL Recreational Football is designed so that everyone can play; it is less physically demanding, has a minimal time commitment, with a major emphasis on fun and safety (non contact). Played in a friendly social environment, the game enables people of all ages and ability levels to participate in male, female or mixed competitions.

The game for everyone....

This non contact game is played between two teams of eight, with an unlimited number of interchange players, on a field with a maximum length of 100 metres by 50 metres wide. It is a more accessible version of Australian Football that people can pick up and play with some degree of skill and ability and is directly aligned to the traditional game. Flag belts are used as there is strictly no contact. In mixed competitions, teams are required to have a maximum of five male and a minimum of three female participants on the ground at any one time.

The Rules ....

  1. Two teams of eight; interchange may take place at anytime and be un- limited.
  2. The field is divided into three zones - mid zone and two scoring zones.
  3. Teams score by kicking the football into their attacking zone to designated forwards.
  4. Forwards may take a set shot for goal only after the ball has been marked in their scoring zone.
  5. Forwards may only score from a set shot at goal; there is no playing on when kicking for goal.
  6. If a turnover occurs (football makes contact with the ground), the opposing team gains possession of the ball.
  7. There is to be absolutely no tackling or bumping; flag belts are used.
  8. A mark is awarded irrespective of the distance travelled.

The AFL Recreational Football philosophy is to provide a fun, social and safe recreational community experience that encourages participation.
