Hawks end Port's last finals hope

The usual suspects helped Manunda to another home win at Cazalys on Saturday in what importantly kept them level on points with North Cairns in the race for an all-important top-two spot heading into the AFL Cairns finals. Willie Aisi continued his typically good form with a perfomance that coach Clint Gribble described as "easily best on ground' and was the difference between the two sides. Backed up by Luke Powell and Jason Campbell, the coach said Aisi's work in defence was the difference, as they also ended Port Douglas's last-gasp finals chances with a comfortable 12.9 (81) to 7.11 (53) victory. Port sit fifth now, 12 points behind South Cairns, and with percentage difference can't catch the Cutters with just three rounds left. Tim Churchin kicked four of the Hawks' 12 goals. At Griffiths Park, Cairns Saints took a quarter to wake up before kicking onto a massive 141-point defeat of Cairns City. Incredibly, the Lions led by seven points at the first break, before normal transmission was resumed with the Saints slamming on 10 goals in the quarter.
