Key injury puts distance between flag fancies.
An injury to Clint Gribble has drastically reduced Manunda's ability to compete with North Cairns in the midfield on the weekend and if he doesn't return, it will damage their hopes in the upcoming finals series. The luckless Gribble agreed the setback could not have come at a worse time, and he will have scans today to determine just how bad the knee is. In his absence, North Cairns were unstoppable on Saturday. Given that result, it now leaves the final-four AFL Cairns teams well spread. Cairns Saints are on top and having kicked 43 - yes 43 - goals against the sorry Bulldogs on Saturday, it is safe to say they are still in good form. Over the course of the season Saints have proved themselves to be comfortably better than Norths, and now Norths have proven they are comfortably better than Manunda. That leaves Souths in fourth. They lost to Manunda by eight goals in their last encounter. It means the finals series, theoretically, is a pretty predictable one. But when was the last time the footy finals went completely to script?
