With just one round to go until the Christmas break, North Cairns Tigers and Manunda Hawks appear to be positioning themsleves as the top two teams in the AFL Cairns Women's League competition. The Tigers, who were undefeated premiers last year, remain unbeaten through the first three rounds of 2012, while the Hawks have won two straight. The premiers sent an emphatic message at Wastons Oval on Saturday, beating Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs by 144 points in a replay of last year's grand final. The depleted Dogs were scoreless for a second consecutive week, losing 0.0 (0) to 22.12 (144) a week after being beaten by Manunda 9.16 (70) to 0.0 (0). The Hawks maintained that winning form, beating a valiant Cutters team 6.10 (46) to 3.4 (22) in the most competitive game of South Cairns' season. Next week, North Cairns will face the Hawks in a rematch fo the season opener. The Tigers won that game by five but the Hawks have won two straight since.
