Golden Oldies to the rescue Masters footballers are set to plug playing holes in the AFL Cairns reserve grade competition to help clubs avoid the embarrassment of forfeiting matches.

With a lack of jobs in the Far North hindering the player recruitment efforts of all AFL Cairns clubs for 2009, masters footballers will volunteer their services to fill any player number shortfalls in reserve grade this season.

Cairns to host 2009 AFL Masters National Carnival Cairns has been chosen as the host city for the 2009 AFL Masters Carnival - a week long event in October which attracts teams from every State of Australia in five age-based team categories – 35 to 40, 40 to 45, 45 to 50, 50 to 55 and 55+.
