Lions have nine in time for selection Cairns Lions' footballers have won nine of the 22 spots available in the Queensland Country Kookaburras squad which will play at next month's AFL Queensland Under-18 Championships in Brisbane.

The Lions spent the weekend in Rockhampton playing at the Under-18 Country Championships, which are essentially a seclection trial for the Kookaburras.

Under 16s Cairns Lions team named for Rockhampton The U16 Cairns Lions will head to Rockhampton to compete in the U16s Queensland Country Championhips in April. A large squad of between 50-60 players has been training hard since early February preparing for the championships and for their own club football.

The depth this year has been very impressive and the overall attitude so far has been very good. Unfortunatley the time has come to trim the squad down with the start of the club season upon us and the country championships not far away. I would like to thank all players on their efforts so far and wish everyone the best for their season of club football.

Kookaburras Run out of legs and bodies The Queensland Country Kookaburras saved their best effort until last in their final game of the U18 State Championships but ran out of legs and able bodies just falling short to the Western Taipans at Coorparoo on Saturday.

The Kookaburras started the game strongly with key forward Jye Bohm and midfielders Stanis Susuve and Nat Congoo setting the standard. The Kookaburras and the Taipans went goal for goal through the entire first half with the Taipans taking a 1 point advantage into the main break. more -->
