Gold Coast Suns Cup (Open Boys) is shaping up to be a ripper of a competition in 2013 with 5 rounds of footy played between all of Rockhampton and Yeppoon’s major high schools. Last year saw some great footy played from all schools and this year should be no different
Glenmore high will be aiming to make the grand final for the third year in a row which is a great effort considering they have only been in the competition for those three years.
Rockhampton Grammar school had a disappointing year in 2012 after being champions in 2011. This year’s squad should be better off from last year’s experience.
Rockhampton high appears to have a very strong side this year with the rumours that any of the boys that want to play in the senior league team this year need to try out for the AFL team as well as part of their pre season fitness. Should be interesting!
North Rockhampton high once again looks competitive with a number of players involved with the regional Gold coast suns Academy. They should have plenty of run and speed around the ground.
Emmaus has been building their AFL team up over the years and I expect that this year will be a break out year for the school with a couple of young guns from the Suns Academy leading the way they will be hard to stop.
TCC much improved last year. The question is will they improve this year? They have a great contingent of young players to provide pace and agility around the footy but will they be able to handle the big hits from the more mature bodies that the other schools will have. The Catholic cup will be one of the highlights of the season and should be a great game of footy.
Yeppoon High has to be equal favourites along side St Brendan’s this year. They have plenty of skill and experience brought to them by a strong local Yeppoon AFC Inc. Plenty of skill and showmanship will see these guys produce something special.
St Brendan’s is a hard one to predict. It was a great effort form the school that were cellar dwellers in 2010 and 2011 to end up eventual winners in 2012 after finishing equal top of the ladder. The St Brendan’s lads play an exciting brand of footy with skill and plenty of pace supplies from the indigenous lads.
