SUN RISES ON A NEW ERA
To say there have been changes within the Sherbrooke Hoist Hydraulics Suns Championship Men’s team for 2013 would be a massive understatement.
Firstly, Luke Smith (Latrobe City Energy Div 1 coach 2010 -2012) has replaced Warren Estcourt as the Head Coach. Warren as we know is now coaching Diamond Valley.
Secondly, there are only 2 players, Josh Smith and Brian Moore remaining from the 2012 playing roster. Luke is very excited for the upcoming season as the Suns have recruited well throughout a busy off season.
“We have picked up quality players and individuals and they have brought with them an infectious enthusiasm regarding building something special. Returning to the Suns are former junior players Jake Spruhan (Warrnambool Div 1 captain in 2012), Jonathan Ball (Sherbrooke Youth in 2011, travelled extensively in 2012), James Denton ( Sherbrooke Youth 2011, AFL in 2012) and Daniel Bishop (Eltham Youth 2012, Sherbrooke junior). Added to these players and new to the club are Tim Mulhall and David Moore (Kilsyth SEABL), Cam Greenwood (Kilsyth D League), & Jake Sobey (Warrnambool Div 1).”
Added to this squad are guard Mo Williams and centre Laurence Donelson 111 who are childhood friends from the USA and add another dimension not previously seen at Sherbrooke. Finally Matt Madden has committed to the club for 2013.
“Mo has been putting up good numbers in Port Macquarie and he came down for a tryout with us in late November and fitted in well. His long time friend Laurence (L Train) has been playing in Moscow and brings athleticism along with a 6’ 10” frame. Matt, well, you can’t teach 7ft” coach Smith smiled. “We are a young side but have a good blend of court savvy and youthful enthusiasm. Our game will be up-tempo, high energy – relentless. Opposition teams will understandably not rate us just purely due to the number of personnel changes, but they do so to their peril” Luke warned.
