Day 6 - Men's Playoff for 7th and 8th Position - Papua New Guinea 67 def Tahiti 57
As the siren sounded and the game began, the anticipation and excitement was felt throughout the stadium, and both of the teams were ready to begin the match.
The game started off fairly evenly, with both teams accurately scoring goals and the scores staying within a few points of each other.
Papua New Guinea took a lead late on in the quarter, overcoming Tahiti’s strength and quick reflexes, the quarter finished with Papua New Guinea on 20 to Tahiti 18.
The second quarter started off fast paced, as the eager players from both teams exhausted themselves out on the court, running up and down in a half court press.
The scores stayed fairly even, Papua New Guinea only taking a small lead over Tahiti - both teams bumped, pushed, shot, ran and played hard at all times trying their absolute bests and pushing through.
Tahiti played a really good, strong defense, while Papua New Guinea tended to be more accurate at shooting, but the quarter was very even from all sides.
The quarter finished off very intensely and extremely close but at the end Papua New Guinea just took the lead and managed to overcome Tahiti with the scores Papua New Guinea 33 to Tahiti 32.
The third quarter started off with a lot of cheering, chanting and nerves from both teams and the crowd with such a close game, nobody could tell who was going to win.
Papua New Guinea started shooting a few points as the quarter started and it looked like they were going to take a lead, but Tahiti fought back and shot themselves some points and kept their defense strong.
Every time Papua New Guinea shot a few goals, and it looked like they were going to go on a lead, Tahiti would come back, shoot a few goals and it would be even or close to it again.
Separating the teams was double-double statistics from PNG’s M Lune with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
The third quarter ended with Papua New Guinea just taking a lead over Tahiti with the scores Papua New Guinea 50 to Tahiti 49.
The fourth and final quarter began with Papua New Guinea taking a small lead over Tahiti, but Tahiti weren’t just letting them have it easy, they played strong and hard defense to try and stop them from scoring and winning.
The fourth quarter was the most intense, with everyone aware this was the last chance and the match defined what placing they had, both teams went full pelt and threw everything they had at the match.
With 3 minutes left in the match, Papua New Guinea took a 12 point lead over Tahiti, but both teams fought hard with Papua New Guinea just taking more accuracy and their lead stayed with the game ending with Papua New Guinea with the scores Papua New Guinea 67 to Tahiti 57.
