U-21 Championships for Women.

The FIBA World Championships for U-21 women will be held in Moscow in July 2007, and in order to win a berth there, the national teams of Australia and New Zealand will travel to New Zealand's southern most city, Invercargill in the depths of winter to compete in the 2006 FIBA Oceania Championships for U-21 Women.

The New Zealand Basketball Federation have, over recent years, pursued a policy of taking international matches around the country to showcase the sport. In addition to two matches in Invercargill, one match in the three match series will be played in the South Island city of Dunedin.

To be fair, the FIBA Oceania U-21 Championship is being played as part of a promotional program incorporating a international series between the (NZ) Tall Blacks and Qatar, but I am sure that they hope the travel and cool conditions facing the Australians may give the Junior Tall Ferns the boost they need to defeat the Australian Sapphires - something they have yet to do in all their encounters.

The schedule of games is;

Friday August 11th
New Zealand v/s Australia Edgar Centre, Dunedin. Tip-off 6.00 pm

Saturday August 12th
Australia v/s New Zealand - Stadium Southland, Invercargill. Tip-off 5.30 pm

Sunday August 13th
New Zealand v/s Australia - Stadium Southland, Invercargill. Tip-off 12.30 pm.
