FIBA Oceania Saipan kicks off!
The Guam team took a big stand in the beginning over the bigger Australian team by playing great defense and scoring off turnovers and took a double digit lead right off the bat. Australia though woke up in the second quarter to lower their deficit to one before the half. Both teams battled for their points trading baskets and keeping the score even until the last half of the fourth quarter when Australia made crucial baskets to put their team up and seal the deal by feeding their big men and spreading the floor for better shots.
Both teams struggled protecting the ball and shooting the long ranged three pointer. There were a total of 52 turnovers in the game between the two teams which led to easy transition baskets and fastbreak points. Australia shot 2-16 from the three and Guam shooting 1-15 from the arch forcing each other to take higher percentage shots. Joe Blas was the high scoring man for Guam with 16 points going 6-16 and 7 rebounds. Vince Estelle had a game high 10 rebounds for Guam. Australia’s Thomas Daly and Jeromie Hill led their team with 12 and 11 points respectively for the winning cause.
