BBA Referee Program

REFEREE ACCREDITATION PATHWAY

The 3 levels of training that the Bunbury Basketball Association offers are outlined below.

Introductory Referee Course – Duration 2 hours.

This course begins with a brief induction and welcome into the Bunbury Basketball Association. This course contains the basic rules, games administration and mechanics needed by beginner referees. Upon completion of this introductory course, you will referee as a shadow to a more experienced referee.

Community Referee (formerly Level 0) Accreditation – Duration 3 hours.

Referees will undertake a 3 hour rules and mechanics update. A basic exam is required to be completed and referees must be assessed as competent in basic mechanics, recognizing and call most violations and fouls. Referees must be capable of controlling a game at a local junior level.

Level 1 Referee Course Accreditation – Duration Approx 8-10 hours.

To advance to the next level of accreditation, referees must attend a level 1 referee course. These courses are usually run either on a weekend or over a number of nights and take approximately 8-10 hours to complete. Referees must complete an exam and be assessed on court as meeting competencies outlined by Basketball Australia. Upon completion of this level of training, you will be qualified to referee at a WABL standard.
