The Ngurratjuta Lightning Carnival is traditionally held on Easter Saturday & Easter Sunday each year. The Carnival provides an opportunity for remote community football teams to come to Alice Springs and participate in a two day football carnival. 2009 was a record breaking year for the Ngurratjuta Lightning Carnival with a record 28 teams competing in two divisions and over 8,000 people attending the Carnival throughout the course of the weekend.

Ngurratjuta's support of AFLCA has given AFLCA the capacity to continue to grow Australian Rules Football in Central Australia. Furthermore, Ngurratjuta is a major partner of the AFLCA Healthy Lifestyle Program, which promotes healthy lifestyle messages to players and supporters of Australian Rules Football in Central Australia and which is headed by AFLCA's no-alcohol policy; where no alcohol is sold in the general public area at all CAFL fixtures.

MacDonnell Shire Council is a major corporate partner of AFL Central Australia and is the Naming Rights Partner of the CAFL Under 17 competition, the MacDonnell Shire U/17 Cup.

The Good Sports program is a national initiative of the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF) to develop safer and healthier communities. It is a free program which helps clubs change their culture to become more focused on young people and families and less on the consumption of alcohol at high risk levels. 

Good Sports works to create sustainable change by enabling sporting clubs to change their systems and practices around the responsible serving of alcohol. It has been developed to:

- Change the behaviour of players, supporters and members of community sporting clubs;

oI    - Increase the viability and impact of sporting clubs in their communities;

- Reduce alcohol related problems such as drink driving, violence and assault.

Good Sports has been adopted by a diverse range of community sports clubs. It is currently operating in every state and territory of Australia with over 2000 clubs involved.
