Fencing Victoria is calling for nominations from schools for selection to represent Victoria at the 2011 Australian School Teams Championships.
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2011 Australian School Teams Championships will be held in Brisbane, over the weekend of 20-21 August. The Championships will consist of six events - Men's & Women's Foil Teams, Men's & Women's Epee Teams, Men's & Women's Sabre Teams. There are no age categories for these events - eligibility is that each member of each school's team has been a student in Victoria for at least 12 months prior to the competition. There are no individual events, and all members of each team must be from the same school. Further information about the event schedule can be found on the AFF web site (click here).
ATHLETES
Fencing Victoria will select a school for each event. Where more than one school nominates for any event, there may be a possibility for Fencing Victoria to apply to the AFF for additional schools to be selected. Each Team should consist of a minimum of three athletes, and a maximum of five athletes (four competitors, and one non-travelling reserve).
COSTS
Selected schools will be required to meet the costs of their team's travel, accommodation, insurance expenses, and the required team entry fee ($140 per Team). All members of any nominated team must also ensure that they are fully affiliated with Fencing Victoria at the time of nomination (i.e. a basic affiliation is insufficient).
NOMINATION PROCESS & TIMELINE
Nominations for entry must be made prior to 5pm on Wednesday 3 August. To nominate for entry, a suitably authorised staff member of the school must declare their nomination, the event(s) to be competed, an acknowledgement that the school and / or students will cover all costs associated with their team's participation in the competition, the name of the school staff member accompanying the team to Brisbane, and the names of the members of the team by email to schools@fencingvictoria.org. Any selection decisions will be referred to the Selection Commission by the FV Executive. Questions regarding this competition and the nomination process may also be addressed to schools@fencingvictoria.org.
OTHER INFORMATION
Note that conductive bibs are not required for the foil events in this competition.
