Nominations for Director
Kayt Spano
My interest in fencing began when my eldest son decided that he wanted to give it a try and follow in the footsteps of other members of my family. Soon after, I was given the opportunity to begin a small business importing fencing equipment. My business has now grown to have close working relationships with numerous international firms and associations. I have been involved with several clubs (in Victoria as well as Interstate) not only supporting many fencers by supplying and repairing equipment. But also, the coaches, referees and parents with their requirements. I also made a signif-icant contribution to the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in 2010 both as the Merchandis-ing Manager but also as one of the Silver Sponsors.
I have been a Director of Fencing Victoria since 2010. During this time my highlights have included:
- Event management for AFC & Oceania Competitions held in Melbourne.
- Team Manager for the U15 & Cadet National Competitions 8 times.
- Creating and updating the Victorian Selection Policy for Touring Teams.
- VicBandits tours of Sydney and more recently, Adelaide
- Working to create the AMC (Australian Minime Circuit), a circuit specifically for U7-U14 chil-dren to travel and compete at events throughout the year.
- The Arnold Sports Festival - fencing promotion and exhibitions 2015-2018. Showcasing Fencing not only to members of the public, but also creating the ‘Kids Days Out’ for school children to try out fencing and other sports.
- Merchandising of Fencing Victoria, new off piste team clothing.
I have worked closely with other states to develop opportunities for our fencers and understand pathways available to them to further their sporting aspirations.
I am passionate about the value of fencing as a self-development activity for children and I have sought to promote the sport to new groups of potential athletes. I have pursued opportunities for fencing promotion. I seek to further the sport of fencing in Victoria in any small way that I can & if re-elected I hope to continue to work for the whole of the sport.
Graeme Orrman
I have been involved as a member of Fencing Victoria for approximately 3 years, where I have passionately enjoyed both the sport and the broader fencing community with my son Wil.
While I have not previously been a part of any body at this level, I see an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of the sport and its growth in Victoria through my professional experience.
My professional background is in Human Resources, particularly in adult Learning & Development.
I have recently finished a 27 year tenure with Toyota, where I managed Toyota Australia’s activity as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to deliver certificate II and III qualifications to approximately 3500 manufacturing and warehousing employees.
I have also spent time in operations before returning to HR to deploy Toyota Global Content to white collar clients on standardisation (process management), planning, single page report writing, KPI visual management and Problem-solving as core skills required for “daily management of operations”. This can be largely thought of as “Toyota Way” or “Toyota Production System for office staff”.
It is with this skill set that I feel I can best contribute to Fencing Victoria over the next 2 years: working to support the formation of a strategy to grow the profile of fencing in Victoria, and work with the FV network of board members and coaches to visualise and track potential problem areas to expand fencing in Melbourne and possibly regional areas.
Thank you,Regards,Graeme Orrman.
