Samoa wins Commonwealth Youth Games 2015 Samoa via the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee has secured the rights to host the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games.

The Commonwealth Games Federation’s 71 member nations and territories awarded the Games to Samoa at its recent General
Assembly held in The Gambia.

In announcing the decision, CGF President, Mike Fennell, said he was delighted to see the Youth Games heading to the small nation of around 180,000 people.

“It is an important part of our ethos that all member countries and territories have the opportunity of hosting events,” Mr Fennell said. “Not everyone can host the Commonwealth Games, but we firmly believe that smaller nations should look to host our Youth Games.” more -->

The 2008 Olympic Games may have been over for a few weeks now, but the venues were in full use as the 13th Paralympic Games were underway, September 6th -17th.

Mose Faatamala was Samoa’s only athlete to qualify for the 2008 Games during the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia in 2007. more -->

Meet your Athletes for the CYG 2008 The 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games will be held in Pune, India, from the 12th to 18th October 2008. Over 1,300 athletes and 350 officials from 71 countries will participate in these Games.

Olympic Promotion for Apia Schools As part of raising awareness in schools , we are presenting schools in the Apia region with information about the Olympics and the Olympic Movement.

As part of this promotion we are encouraging the schools to accept our offer to have a member of the 2008 Samoa Olympic Team to be a special guest at their school assembly in the first weeks of July, and to encourage their students to participate in the 2008 Olympic Day Run which will be held on Saturday 19th July. more -->

A Gift from the Chinese Embassy This week, SASNOC was gifted with a Mazda pickup from the Chinese Embassy for general office use.
President of SASNOC, Vaeolenofoafia Tapasu Leung Wai expressed his sincere gratitude towards the Embassy for their gift.

Cricket, an Olympic Sport? On Monday 10th November, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the International Cricket Council's (ICC) application to become an IOC - recognised international federation. For the last six years the ICC have been working towards this goal after becoming a member of the General Associtaion of International Sports Federations (GAISF) in 2002. more -->

Minogue appointed PGC Executive Director SASNOC's SPG2007 Operations Advisor, Andrew Minogue, has been appointed the new Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council. Whilst Andrew will eventually move to New Caledonia to take up this role, the PGC have agreed for Andrew to remain at SASNOC until the middle of 2008 to continue working on the Post Games Report and to assist SASNOC's strategic planning in the aftermath of the Games. more -->

Samoa Taekwondo invited to Beijing Qualifier Samoa Taekwondo have been invited to send a team to compete in the 2007 World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament in Noumea, New Caledonia for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in China.
