IN 1995 WILLIE BURTON FIRES HAWKS TO VICTORY OVER THE TARANAKI BEARS!!!!

Big, brooding Wille Burton fired Hawke's Bay to a 115-103 victory over Taranaki in their National Men's basketball league clash in Napier. The Hawks captain, who has a game time apearance defying anyone to get in his way, was a behemoth-like figure on the boards at both ends of the court as the home team quickly took a grip on an entertaining NBL clash in Centennial Hall.  Burton, despite sitting out the last quarter, scored 19 points and hauled down 14 rebounds to have a major impact on the game.  His mighty all around game was instrumental in the Hawks match winning 20 point lead early in the second half.  The Burton-inspired Hawks had a free running, entertaining game under control midway through the first quarter when they produced a burst of 15 unanswered points.  The Taranaki Bears came back into the game when Burton was subbed out of the game  but the Hawks prevailed 115-103.
