Hawks v Nuggets Live

In what should be the game of Round Two, the HBS Bank Hawks will host the OceanaGold Nuggets, streamed live on sportwebcasts.com

Nuggets have really struggled against the Hawks, last defeating them in 2003.

Hayden Allen is the only survivor from the 2003 team that won 102-96, but unfortunately he will not be in the line up due to a NZ Breakers function.

Losing a player of Allen’s quality would have been a massive blow for the Nuggets in the past, but with the likes of former Tall Black Brendon Polyblank stepping into the starting line up, the Nuggets will still be strong.

Hawks will have swingman Paora Winitana back with the team, missing last week because of the Sunday game. Winitana and Polyblank will be an interesting match up, as both are experienced and physical players.

Imports Darko Cohadarevic and Brian Greene dominated the paint in their big win over the Sharks, each grabbing double-doubles.

The two imports will have a much tougher battle up front against last week’s player of the week Beny Anthony who had 34 points and 12 rebounds, and Americans Antoine Tisby and Akeem Wright, who both like to crash the boards.

Hawks are still without American Kareem Johnson, who is yet to be naturalised, so they really need to make a concerted effort on preventing the Nuggets from scoring off second chance opportunities.

Point guard Mark Dickel was his usual self last week dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven steals. The former Tall Black will take on another Tall Black in the younger Jarrod Kenny, who will hopefully be at full strength after suffering a corked leg last week.
