Central Region Under 13 Qualifying Basketball Tournament
Hawkes Bay hosted the Central region Under 13 qualifying tournament at the Rodney Green Centennial Events Centre over the weekend. The tournament involved boys and girls teams from Taranaki, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and Ngati Porou competing for spots and seeding for the National Finals at Dunedin in October.
The Hawkes Bay Under 13 Boys A team dominated the tournament going through unbeaten in round robin play and then winning the final against Palmerston North by 77 to 62. In the play-off for final two spots Gisborne defeated Taranaki 57 to 56.
In the Girls section Taranaki was the unbeaten team and first seed for the region followed by Palmerston North, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay who all qualified for the National Finals.
