Rishikul Sanatan College Hosted First HIV Prevention Session for School Teacher
One of the largest Secondary School in Nasinu- Rishikul Sanatan College hosted its first ever staff development session on HIV today 14th May 2012.
Ms Fiona Tawaketini who volunteered with the STOP HIV Program during the Cokes Game Outreach last month coordinated the logistic for the STOP HIV Team to present its session on HIV. Closed to 60 teaching staff of Riskikul Sanatan College attended a 90 minutes session where Ms Tavaita Senikaucava ( HIV Advocate) and Kavitesh Behari ( Football STOP HIV Champion) and Andrew Prasad ( National Program Coordinator for STOP HIV ) presented on the prevention issues related to HIV.
Ms Senikaucava shared her testimony while Kavitesh delivered his session on the importance of being a role model and how advocacy through sports could assist in the prevention work. Andrew Prasad then gave a comprehensive presentation on HIV and its prevention.
Mr. Sumer , Principal of Rishikul Sanatan College was impressed on the effort the team made during the presentation and thanked the team for coming over to Rishikul.
The team also facilitated the condom demonstration exercise before Tavaita’s speech.
The team would like to thank the Principal and staff of Rishikul Sanatan College for allowing the team to present to teachers. The STOP HIV Team will be resuming its school visits from the 11- 29 June 2012 and will be presenting to teachers of visited schools as well to senior students.
This activity is a joint initiative between National Substance Abuse Advisory Council and STOP HIV Program of FASANOC.
