Venom Still In The Hunt For Big V Glory

A great weekend of finals basketball at WSC has paved the way for another exciting week for our senior Venom teams, this time on the road with both teams heading to country Victoria.

The Venom 'Gardiner McInnes' Women are best placed after toppling the previously unbeaten Warrnambool Mermaids 64-59, a memorable win after being down by as much as 15pts in the second quarter.

"Without doubt one of the best wins in our Big V history," said coach Justin Nelson after the game.

"I can't speak highly enough of this group. We are young, we have a thirst for playing great defence and we are only going to get better. I think we earned some real respect with this win.

"I can tell you that I feel far better heading down to Warrnambool one up rather than being one down. We'll give it a red hot go for sure. Great things happen to those prepared to work hard for it," he added.

The Venom 'Rob Cousens' Men have some work to do up in Mildura this weekend after going down to the unbeaten Heat by 18pts.

After a slow start, the Venom matched it with the experienced Heat the whole way, but couldn't bridge the gap. The men will now need to win both games in Mildura in order to progress to the D3M grand final series.
