Venom's Big V Win Over Warrnambool Up With The Best

Venom 'Gardiner McInnes' Women's coach Justin Nelson called last Sunday's thrilling 64-59 win against previously unbeaten Warrnambool "probably" the club's best ever since joining the Big V back in 2007.

"We've enjoyed great semi-final wins in the past against the likes of Diamond Valley and Werribee, wins that have put us through to grand finals, but the win against Warrnambool was probably better given nobody outside of our team gave us a shot at beating the Mermaids," Nelson said.

"It's just a step forward for our young group, I know that, but it's a big step to take in the space of one afternoon.

"We'll head to Warrnambool this week with a nothing-to-lose attitude, we'll just have a red hot go and if it is good enough then we'll get the job done. I only ever ask for 100 per cent from the team. The pressure is on the Mermaids, nobody gave us a chance and here we are enjoying ourselves and putting Warrandyte on the map," Nelson added.
