Big V Women Show Good Signs Against Ringwood

Our Big V women have continued their pre-season campaign with a 63-43 win against Ringwood. Played at Oxley College on a Thursday night (Feb 12), the Venom led from start to finish and again used the opportunity to run 12 players.

Taking the opportunity to get minutes into as many players as possible, coach Justin Nelson rotated his squad and was happy with the result, but insisted there was plenty more work to be done in the lead-up to the start of the season on March 21.

"We've had two games now and enjoyed some real positives, but on the flipside we still have plenty of things to work on and there's real room for improvement," said Nelson.

"While it's good to get another positive result, nobody will remember a pre-season game when the real stuff starts, so we are very mindful that it's all about preparation at the moment and there's no doubt we will only get better from here."

Jess Oram dominated the contest and returned a game-high 24 points and countless rebounds, while Janelle Lucas (11 points) and Lauren Sabidussi (9 points) also found their range.

"Jess is in great shape and is looking forward to the challenges ahead this season. She's a very important member of the group and shows the strength and leadership under the basket that every team needs."

Next up for the Venom is a clash with Mornington this Saturday night (Feb 14) in Mornington. Game starts at 7pm.
