Senior Men's Director & Coach Appointed

Warrandyte Basketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelvin Bowers to the position of Senior Men's Director from September 2009 forward.

With a submission for a Big V men's team currently being prepared, the club is delighted to welcome Kelvin as the inaugural coach and also the first dedicated senior director of basketball for the entire boys side of the program.

Kelvin, who has significant experience coaching in the Big V (including 11 years at Sunbury), is currently the assistant senior coach at Sandringham (SEABL) and runs the U16 Sabres program.

The appointment will see Kelvin join the club in September this year, just in time to assist with tryouts and get preparations in place for the 2009/2010 VJBL season and the 2010 Big V season.

Current senior director Justin Nelson said the appointment enhances the entire program at the club and provides the boys side of the program with a dedicated resource that will help lift the overall standard, both on and off the court.

"Kelvin is a class act, a real ball of energy and a person who genuinely loves the game and helping young players to aspire to higher levels," said Nelson.

"Warrandyte's growth, coupled with the support from neighbouring clubs like Park Orchards, has put the club in a great position to have a senior director for girls, and also one for boys. This move will really see the club take another significant step forward.

"I know the workload is increasing all the time, as are the expectations of members. At times, people do think that good coaches grow on trees and that we have a huge list of volunteers that have masses of hours available to give, but it's simply not the case.

"Every step takes time and a certain amount of growth to support it. As a club, from juniors through to seniors, the last five years have been extraordinary and we are now seeing the fruits of all the hard work. Kelvin is a key person in our next steps and I'm really looking forward to working alongside him."

In the coming weeks a detailed on-court structure will be finalised by Kelvin and Justin and presented to the committee prior to being communicated to members. The structure will include outlined details on each program within the association, including Redbacks, Venom and the MMBL / Big V competitions.
