Meet The Redbacks Girls

As a part of our ongoing updates from the Redbacks program this season, enjoy the thoughts and latest news from two of our U9 and U13 teams.

U9 WR2 GIRLS - Coaches Anne and Ellie Cousens

This is the second season for our team with the majority of the girls playing in last summer's competition and now again this winter, with the addition of some wonderful new team mates.

Our girls are coached by Ann and Ellie Cousens who are doing a wonderful job of teaching the girl's new skills and encouraging them to play as a team. We were unsuccessful in the first 3 rounds but hope to improve upon this as grading continues.

We asked each of girls what is was they liked about basketball and our team and these are the responses each of them gave:

4. Kara Colborne-Veel: I like bouncing the ball the best.
5. Lauren Eadie: Because I like moving around the court and it's fun.
7. Chloe Goring: I like basketball because we shoot good, we dribble good and I have nice team mates.
20. Genevieve Callahan: Our team is friendly and I like basketball because it's real fun.
25. Amy Penver: My team is really friendly, I like basketball because it's really good and you get to verse people you know.
30. Jessica Sholakis: I like shooting and bouncing the ball and because it's a thing you can do with your friends.
32. Gemma Potter: Because it feels good to do.
34. Maggie Aitken: I like basketball because you can meet new friends.

U13 WR1 Girls - Coach Kellie Taylor

Our Warrandyte Under 13A Girls are off to a banging start with 3 wins!!! Round 3 had us up against Eltham 1 @ Eltham.

The game proved to be a fast moving, physical match with plenty to keep the refs busy !! We came up with a win by 8 €˜hard-earned points. The game is best wrapped up by our 2 Maddies !!

"I thought we worked really well together, helping each other when needed. It was a good, fun game," said Maddie E.

"The game was very challenging, but we came out doing really well. One of the highlights to the game was our passing, passing to each other was sensational. I also think when we were defending we had good vision on where our players were going and what screens others players set," said Maddi T.

"I'm really pleased with the girls so far, they are all willing to try new moves, both as individuals and as a Team. I couldn't ask for more," said coach Taylor.

"We are looking forward to a competitive season with some very good opposition." Go Redbacks.
