NW Tas gears up for return of WNBL Plus Penguin U14's Playing Warmup Game

Basketball Tasmania

The Dandenong Jayco Rangers head to Devonport on the coming
weekend to meet the Sydney Flames in the city's first ever taste of
Women's National Basketball League action.

The Tassie Islanders played a WNBL game in Burnie about 20
years ago but Saturday's match, the first of two 2009/10 season games
scheduled for Tasmania, is Devonport's first.

Hobart's Aurora Stadium will be the venue for
this season's second game when the Jayco Rangers meet the Australian
Institute of Sport at the end of January.

After an ordinary start to the season, the Rangers have looked
far more impressive in the last couple of weeks with a 16 point win
over the third-placed Bendigo two weeks ago followed by a nine point
loss to Adelaide last week after leading for most of the first three
quarters.

Rangers' coach Dale Waters will be looking for continued good
form from captain Caitlin Ryan who is averaging ten points per game and
young guard Stephanie Cumming (12 points per game).

Others to look out for will be US imports Casey Nash and
Ashley Lindsey and New Zealand international Toni Edmondson while a key
factor in the game will be the all-round talents of Megan Moody who is
averaging 11 points and 5 rebounds per game together with one block and
one steal.

Tickets to Saturday's big clash will be on sale at the Devonport Sports Centre from 5.00pm on match day.
