Lady Hawks Play-off Destiny In Own Hands

Play-off hopes of Ringwood’s Lady Hawks are still alive after a come from behind 70-60 home win against the Hume City Broncos at home on Sunday in BigV State Championship action.

Starting well, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead and at the first break led Hume City 21-19. Broncos athletic New Zealand international Toni Edmondson (25 points) showed her class in the second period to score at will as the deficit was quickly erased. Signs were ominous for the home team as they went into the long break down 27-38.

Out of the break better defence slowed the visitors and led to easier scoring options for Ringwood. Import centre Krista Rabenberg had her best offensive game since joining the Hawks mid-season to net 17 points while dragging down a game high 12 rebounds. Fellow import Tori Hansen added 14 points of her own.

With less than three points separating the teams early in the final period it became a foul shooting contest and with veteran Lisa Ewin (14 points) and Jacinta Scott (13 points) solid from the charity stripe down the stretch, the Hawks ran out victors.

Ringwood’s destiny is still in their own hands. A win next Sunday in their last regular season game at Waverley will seal a play-off spot, however a loss and an upset win by Diamond Valley over title contender McKinnon will see them miss out.
