AFL WEBSITE
I would just like to remind all clubs and their committees about how good of a resource the AFL website is. It covers everything from the latest news about the AFL Club you support to Coaching, Training, Umpiring, Club Development Structures and The AFL Next Generation Policy.
Please follow the link and spend some time investigating the site. http://www.afl.com.au/Default.aspx
AFLGC Juniors
Club Coordinator Update
Photos are now on Face book (facebook.com/AFLgoldcoastjuniors) of the Sign On Day at Southport Broadwater. Again thanks to everyone for their efforts.
GIRLS FOOTY
AFLGCJ will have an U16’s Girls Competition this year. We are calling for all interested girls to contact Michelle Carroll (aflgcjsouth@bigpond.com) so we can work out numbers and teams.
The competition will run on Wednesday nights (Fortnightly at this stage), with the season is set to start Wednesday 27th April 2011. Registration will cost $100 per player and uniforms will be provided by the League. At this stage we are looking at running with a 12-a-side competition (numbers permitting).
This is a great opportunity for girls to get involved in Footy and enjoy being active. If you have girls interested and they can gather a group of their friends we will obviously place them in the same team.
Please make sure you let all your club people know about this new girls comp so we can generate more interest.
AFL MAGAZINE
A massive thank you to all clubs for providing the information required for the AFL Magazine. Production has now started and will be published on Friday 4th March.
Newsletter Ad’s
Both Club Coordinators have called Primary and High School’s for each club and asked for them to put in another Sign On ad in their newsletters. Again we have had some success with this personal approach. It is now up to the schools as to whether they have enough room to fit these ad’s in.
Club Presidents and Secretaries have been informed of which schools have been contacted so hopefully clubs will have some more success.

Good Sports
The Good Sports Program is a free partnership. Most major sporting competitions promote and advertise alcohol consumption. Heavy drinking is a tradition in many sports clubs, and often alcohol is a major source of revenue.
However, sporting clubs today are facing new pressures from other sports and increased responsibility for the care of their players, members and supporters.
The Good Sports Program is a free program helping sporting clubs to manage alcohol responsibly. Displaying the Good Sports logo sends an important
message to your members and the community. It indicates that your club promotes a responsible attitude towards alcohol and provides a safe environment for players, members, families and supporters.

Highlights of the day will include:
- Gold Coast SUNS promotions team in attendance
- Free activities for the kids eg jumping castle, rock climbing wall
- FY30 competition drawn on the day
- Free giveaways and merchandise
- Free healthy BBQ
The format of the day is to provide some free activities and sporting demonstrations for the community to participate in as well as promoting the message of finding your 30 minutes of activity each day.
Grants & Funding Update
The education/training category in the Sport & Rec Club Support funding program is also an area that the Gambling Community Benefit Fund will support. The participation category - come & try days etc - may also be supported by GCBF if you reframe it as a community activity or event and can demonstrate wider community benefit.
Both the GCBF and Jupiters will also support minor capital works type projects (building improvements, renovations etc). GCBF tends to be the better option if you're looking for equipment.
GCBF will accept both a general application and an application to the solar sport & communities program in the same round.
Most of you will be familiar with the new online process for GCBF and Jupiters - if not, please call and I'm happy to go through it with you.
Here is the link -
http://www.olgr.qld.gov.au/grants/index.shtml
GCBF and Jupiters are both administered by the Qld Government's Community Benefit Funds unit, however the two programs are still separate and decisions are made by separate, independent committees.
Free Governance Workshop
GCCC Links
