MAY 13TH TO MAY 15TH 2011 has been appointed as our annual “Positive or Pointless” weekend.
For those that have not been a part of this before the idea behind this weekend is if you, as a parent/spectator, player or coach do not have anything POSITIVE to say it is POINTLESS so don’t say anything. All comments made, especially this weekend, should only be of a POSITIVE nature.
***** Another initiative that we will also be running this weekend, in conjunction with the AFL and AFL Queensland is “THANKS UMP” ROUND
Round 8 of the AFL Premiership (13th to the 15th of May) has been ear marked as the “THANKS UMP” Round and there will be a media plan from the AFL advertising this campaign.
The weekend is a unique time for all coaches, umpires, players, supporters and spectators to join together to influence and create a positive match day environment in their local area.
There are two main activities that we would like all club to be a part of.
The battle for the hearts and minds of the community requires a large cultural change and campaigns like the “THANKS UMP” Round go a long way to develop awareness and understanding of the problem.
We encourage all participants in the match day environment to get involved. Small changes at a community level can make the environment a better place not only for umpires but all people either current or new to AFL
