Last night was the innargrual grand final for the Youth Girls competition on the Gold Coast. After a long challenge in trying to recruit players, the competition consisted of 4 teams from Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and two teams from Carrara.
The youth girls competition co-ordinator Michelle Carroll has work tirelessly in getting the teams on the field and recruiting girls to clubs. "It was great to see the improvement of the girls throughout the entire season and was even better to see a big crowd last night at at the Grand Final". Michelle said.
The game started off very tough and physical in poor playing conditions. Carrara went into quarter time 12 points up and had the momentum going into the second quarter. The Surfers defence had there work cut out the entire game but really stepped up and played great football. Surfers Paradise kicked there first goal of the game in the third quarter and showed glimpses of fantastic football which lacked at the sart of the season. In saying that, This shows the improvement of the girls in only a hand full of games.
The end result Carrara 74 def Surfers Paradise 6.
The AFLGCJ would like to say thanks to Carrara for hosting the girls football games each round. Their support to the girls football has been outstanding and we couldn't thank them enough.
Next year AFLGCJ will be hosting under 15 and under 18 competitions. If you are interested in playing please contact Michelle Carroll for the closet club in your area. aflgcjsouth@bigpond.com
