Gameren in the driver's seat for new QBL Season

The Northside Wizards Men will unveil their newstar recruit Heath Gameren when the side hosts Ipswich in the opening round of the 2013 QBL season this Sunday(May12th) at South Pine Sports Club in Brendale.

Gameren was drawn to the Wizards by the prospect of re-joiningsecond year coach Leonard King, who he’d played for at his previous club Southern District Spartans.

“I played some of the best basketball of my career under Leonard, so the opportunity to make the move north and continue working with him was too good to pass up.”

After a stand-out junior career in Brisbane that included winning two state championships, Gameren made the move to the United States where he completed four years of college basketball. It was capped off by leading his team Brigham Young University in Hawaii to the national championship game in his final year, a testament to his on court leadership from the point guard position.

It’s a role that the twenty five year old will fill comfortably for the Wizards, and the coach is looking forward to letting him loose on opposing guards in the QBL.

Heath is athletic and at almost 200cm is very tall for a pointguard, which will give us a real advantage at that spot” said coach Leonard King.

He shoots the ball well and is a terrific passer, the type of player who makes his team mates bettersaid King,“I think people are really going to enjoy watching him play this season ”.

The Wizards will be looking to improve on what was a successful QBL campaign in 2012, with the side winning its way into the finals in King’s first season at the helm.
