Good Sports

Toowoomba Basketball Association has recently signed up to become accredited with GoodSports, a program managed by the Australian Alcohol and Drug Foundation that supports community sporting clubs in their aim to be safe, healthy and family friendly environments.

The aims of the GoodSports program are:

  • Highlight club's important role in the community
  • Help clubs serve and sell alcohol within the law

  • Reduce alcohol-related problems (eg. Binge and underage drinking, violence, etc.)
  • Increase club viability

  • Enable clubs to meet their duty of care obligations

  • Eliminate drink driving incidents

  • Provide free ongoing education and support.

TBA will be initially undertaking Level 1 accreditation, which will take one year. To move through the full accreditation process can take up to five years, however a club can complete the full accreditation sooner if the criteria are addressed. Clubs must remain at each level of accrediation for a minimum of one year before progressing on to the next level.

Involvement in the program will assist TBA to manage alcohol responsibly and provide a smoke free and safe environment for your members and visitors. In turn this creates a more positive community image for TBA, encouraging more people to become involved thus generating more diverse streams of revenue for the club. TBA will also receive free Good Sports merchandise to brand your club at each level.

Look out for posters and other information that will be provided through our newsletters which will promote this program.
