SWAFL 2011 Best and Fairest Awards

On Saturday Sept 10, possibly the last stand-alone SWAFL Presentation Night was held at the Bowlers Club.

Previewing the SWAFL Divison 1 Grand Final

On Saturday, Sept 3 at Macquarie University Oval starting at 1pm, the Division 1 Grand Final between the two best teams of 2011: the Sydney University Bombers and Balmain Dockers will contest the SWAFL Shield. With this potentially being the last stand-alone Grand Final, it'll be all to play for. With Newtown being knocked out of the finals, we know that another team will be grinners come 3pm on Saturday.
Wollongong Saints win DIV 2 Grand Final over Mac Uni

Congratulations to the Wollongong Saints who took out the inaugural SWAFL Division Two Grand Final against Mac Uni on Saturday 27 August 2011.
SWAFL Presentation Night 2011
This will probably be the last stand-alone presentation night under the current format, so the 2011 Presentation Evening held at the NSW Bowlers Club in the city should be a great affair. It will be held on the evening of Saturday 10 September (Saturday after the Grand Final).
The NSW Bowlers Club is located at Town Hall, so plenty of public transport and carparking options at the QVB.
SEMI FINALS: Now at Mahoney Park
Sydney Women's AFL Division One Semi Finals are now at Mahoney Park NOT GORE HILL OVAL. The game times remain the same - Wests v Newtown at 12pm and Balmain v Sydney Uni at 2pm.
The Division Two games at Mona Park will still go ahead at the scheduled times.

The future of SWAFL
At a meeting held at the end of July, proposals were made by AFL Sydney to the Sydney Womens AFL to manage the women's competition in future. All club representatives were represented at this important meeting. Member clubs will be asked at a future Extraordinary General Meeting with a super-majority vote required to amend the constitution, should this proposal be accepted.
SWAFL Round 11 Cancelled
After the rain, it was decided to cancel the Round 11 matches. Thus all teams have been awarded into 2 points each for the round.
SWAFL Division 2 All stars against Canada

The 2011 AFL International Cup is here and for the first time, women have their own separate competition. SWAFL have been priviledged to be invited by the Canadian International Team to play a trial match. Currently only Division 2 clubs have been invited to contribute players.
The match will be held on Thursday evening 11 August at Macquarie University. Where: Mac Uni Oval At the end of Culloden road, Macquarie Park The game will consist of 15 minute quarters and an ‘Aussie style’ BBQ will be on offer for spectators.
Festival of Football in Wollongong this Saturday (July 2)

On Saturday July 2 at Figtree Oval, the stars of today and tomorrow will be on display with a SWAFL game and two Interstate Youth Girl Challenge Games. Pop down to Figtree Oval to see the stars of tomorrow!
Also revealed is the talent pathway flowing from this match.

Congratulations to our 2011 All-Australians

At the conclusion of the 2011 Championships won by Victoria (Division 1) and NSW (Division 2), the best players were read out to be All-Australians. Here is the following list. Information is provided by the AFL.

The mighty NSW team of 2011 has lead the Blues back to the promised land after an epic Division 2 Grand Final over fierce rivals ACT coming EPICALLY from behind in the final quarter to reach Division 1 for the first time under the split divisionalised system.

NSW clears away the Tassie Devils and qualifies for Div 2 finals
In game 2 after the triumphant win over the ACT in Game 1, it was more of the same today in a comprehensive victory for NSW as they beat newcomers Tasmania NSW 16.14.110 to Tasmania 1.0.6.
With two victories in the Division 2 pool, NSW automatically qualifies for the Division 2 final on Saturday.
Game 3 is against Northern Territory on Friday, so the ladies get a rest day probably enjoying the best of what South Australia offers before back to game day on Friday. Well done NSW!

The AFL NSW/ACT are putting a lot of resources into Sydney-based Youth Girl competitions to join the Illawarra Youth Girl competitions. Please check the Youth Girls tab (under More Menus) on the SWAFL website to find out more.
SWAFL Clubs take on the ACTWAFL clubs in the preseason challenge

On Election Day, March 26 (don't forget to vote), two SWAFL teams will make the trip down the Hume Highway to take on two ACTWAFL Clubs in a preseason challenge. ACTWAFL clubs have already made an appearance at the AFL Seven's with Tuggeranong and Eastlake making the semi-finals.
There is a full day of football from Juniors to Senior Men to Female Football at Bargo, so make the one hour journey to enjoy games of footy.

SWAFL pays tribute to Jill Lindsay

Who is Jill Lindsay you may ask? Jill (1950-2011) was the AFL Ground Operations Manager and is the only woman to be accorded VFL/AFL Life Membership. A pioneer in a male-dominated world, Jill determined her own destiny to become regarded as one of football's most highly regarded administrators. The tribute and respect from all quarters of football from elite-AFL level football to women's football across Australia just shows how highly regarded Jill was.

With our competition scheduled to grow to up to 10 or 12 teams, this means more officials are required to service our game. As an umpire, you are paid for your efforts and will definitely get fit and the best spot in the "house" to watch the game if you don't want to play.
Level 2 AFL Womens Coaching Scholarship Now Open

In 2010, the AFL introduced nation-wide level 2 scholarships for women to improve their skills. At that time there were only 5 accredited Level 2 female coaches and 1 High Performance (level 3) female coach.
