The QBL Development Academy began in 2011 and is specifically designed to provide opportunities for elite athletes aged 14-17, who demonstrate the potential to play Basketball at the State and National level through education, training and competition.

 

Throughout the course of the program, athletes will receive education by the coaching staff and also guest coaches / presenters in the following areas:

 

• Agility, speed and footwork
• Game preparation
• Goal Setting
• Individual skill development
• Recovery methods
• Sports Nutrition
• Strength and conditioning

 

The QBL Development Academy provides a direct pathway between the Mackay Basketball Junior Representative Program and the Mackay Basketball Senior QBL Program. Players in the QBL Development Academy have been identified as those who have shown direct potential to represent Mackay Basketball in the QBL or at higher levels of competition.

ELITE COACHING

 

All athletes in the QBL Development Academy will receive guidance from coaches with vast experience in basketball.  Players will receive coaching on individual development, technical skills and tactical concepts. This will also include elements of strength & conditioning.

 

EDUCATION

 

Athletes will gain an inside knowledge and understanding of what is required to play at the higher levels of the game i.e. the dedication, repetition, attitude, sacrifice and work ethic along with an insight into training, nutrition and goal-setting.

 

PLAYER PATHWAY

 

Athletes will receive mentoring regarding their individual ‘pathway’. There are many opportunities to advance junior basketball experience through programs and competitions including the Basketball Queensland State Performance Program (SPP), National Junior Programs, QBL and the NBL / WNBL. The QBL Program Manager will be available to assist athletes and parents with advice when decisions regarding pathways are required. 

 

The coaching staff of the QBL Development Academy program has a network of coaching contacts both nationally and internationally. Progression and performance within the QBL Development Academy and through other programs such as state teams, SPP and schools programs will help athletes gain exposure, so that athletes can continue their pathway.

 

Players interested in the US College System will also benefit through the networking by the coaching staff and education / recruiting information.
