2010 Large Association of the Year - Brisbane Basketball Inc.

Brisbane Basketball worked extremely hard during 2010 exploring the benefits of activating options available within the FIBA database program to ensure that this delivered benefits to both the Association and their members.

During this time Brisbane Basketball also targeted their junior basketball portfolio to help improve the relationship with their referees and to have an awareness of a zero tolerance of abuse to officials. They now have a court controller for all junior games to evaluate and nurture the zero tolerance policy. In addition they are supporting their referees by conducting Tribunal Hearings for all breaches of the Code of Behaviour.

Brisbane Basketball has employed a Development Manager and his role has been to create a Brisbane Basketball coaching philosophy and to educate and support their Representative Coaches in their role. To support this representative coaches are requested to do individual player evaluation to develop a profile on players who are part of their representative program.

In addition they have introduced The Aussie Hoops Program for young potential players to have fun and use a "game sense" approach, while learning the experience of basketball by playing a series of games. In late 2010 they started to deliver the Aussie Hoops Programs to local schools. Junior development camps are an active part of their programs.

To ensure that they are meeting the needs of their members they conduct regular meetings with their club delegates to evaluate and improve their current competitions.

They have sought support from Basketball Queensland to chair a Task Force Meeting where Committee Members & Presidents were in attendance to discuss their competitions. They are participating in the National 5 on 5 Association Audit Program developed to help associations identify strengths and weaknesses. Brisbane Basketball have embraced the findings of this audit and are working toward addressing any weaknesses identified.

2010 saw Brisbane Basketball membership grow more significantly than any other Association in Queensland maintaining their status as the largest Association in Queensland.

Brisbane Basketball is a very worthy and deserving winner of the 2010 Basketball Queensland Large Association of the Year.
