Vale Toowoomba Basketballers

Brisbane Basketball would like to join Basketball Queensland passing on their heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families, friends and team-mates of Stephanie Mylonas and Stacey Richter from the Toowoomba Mountaineers, following the tragic deaths of the pair on Sunday afternoon.

Both women were committed and treasured members of the basketball community in South East Queensland, and were on their way home from their final game of the Queensland Basketball League season when they were tragically killed in a motor-vehicle accident at Booubyjan.

Their team-mate, Jodie Wright and her two children were also involved in the crash and have been undergoing treatment for injuries. The group were in a private car, travelling separately to the rest of the Toowoomba Mountaineers men’s and women’s squads, who were returning to Toowoomba by bus.

Stephanie, aged 20, had been a member of the Pittsworth Amateur Basketball Association and Toowoomba Basketball Association, had played for the Toowoomba Mountaineers in the QBL for the past two seasons, and was a Level 1 basketball coach.

Stacey, aged 21, was a member of the Pittsworth Amateur Basketball Association, Toowoomba Basketball Association, and Regional Basketball Group, and had also competed in the QBL for the Toowoomba Mountaineers for the past two seasons.

A minute’s silence will be held prior to each of the QBL men’s and women’s finals matches over the next fortnight, to honour the memory of Stephanie and Stacey.

The thoughts of the Brisbane basketball community are with the families of Stephanie, Stacey and Jodie and the entire Toowoomba Basketball Association, during this incredibly difficult and sad time.
