Tarrant to lead Caps Men in 2013

A man that has spent a long time waiting in the wings going about refining his trade as a basketball coach will lead the Caps men in 2013 as Geoff Tarrant gets his first shot as the QBL coach. Whilst his unconventional approach may seem an odd fit for the Caps program one thing is for sure is that they will play a very high paced exciting brand of basketball.

Tarrant who shies away from making promises one thing he can guarantee is that his team will have a focus on defense and demand defences keep them honest all over the floor ”we will be big on skill and fundamentals and will play very much an up-tempo style of basketball” Tarrant said.

Anyone who knows Tarrant knows that he does demand perfection and his track record of taking younger players and ensuring that they can compete with grown men will be put to the test. He does see that Brisbane has had much success with its juniors and he hopes to continue to develop those juniors and prepare them for senior basketball whether it here or overseas.

“The standard of player is whole lot higher at QBL level but we have to make sure they are ready to make that jump … it takes time to develop players but we intend to do that all year round, it’s a 16 week QBL season, you need to develop all the time not just during QBL season” Tarrant on how he hopes to involve the current crop of junior talent coming up through the ranks.

Tarrant who is fiercely competitive and driven will ensure that his team takes on a little of his own personality in that regard as they compete for every loose ball, every rebound, on every possession.

Whilst this may be his first head coaching job at the QBL he is not new to it having served previously in the role of assistant for Brisbane many years ago, he will call on all of his 20 plus years of experience in moulding the Caps Men into a “highly competitive and tough” basketball team.

Caps Men will start holding trials early in the New Year and with a few major signings to be announced in the next couple of weeks the Brisbane Capitals program continues to go from strength to strength.
